TREE DOWN - SIGNS RESCUED

While I was out running earlier, I observed that the tree that had the North Shore's Residents Camp signs was down. My mother (Betsy) and I placed the signs in our shed. I was wondering if you could put something on the website to inform people that we have the signs and that they are safe in our shed. Thank you and have a Happy New Year!

ESCAPED TOWING-TUBE

This washed up on our shoreline about a week ago. It's safely stored for the Winter so the owner can claim it now or wait till Spring. Our electric boat doesn't go fast enough to tow it. haha.

Send an email via the "Contact Sylvia" button or call 315-771-1721.

TAX PROPERTY CAP INFO

I wonder if the Sylvia Lake community is aware of the St. Lawrence County proposed property tax increase of 15%? Apparently, there is a meeting in Canton on Aug 29 to discuss...

It looks like the recently passed prop tax cap of 2% can be "opted out" if a majority of the county representatives vote for ignoring the cap. I contacted by email our 2 representatives expressing some concern, Mr. Peck (kindly) quickly responded and indicated that in his view, with the state mandates, there was "no way to avoid" the increase - Alex Mc. did not respond to my email.

THANK YOU DRAGONFLIES!

Dragonflies are swarming on our camp lawn tonight eating little flying bugs. A pretty neat sight to watch.

Dragonflies generally are brightly colored with yellow, green, blue, or red spots or stripes that stand out against darker backgrounds. A dragonfly has a large head, bulging eyes, and strong jaws. Three pairs of medium-sized legs are attached to a short thorax, behind which is a long, slender abdomen. Two pairs of transparent, veined wings are attached to the thorax. Wingspan is from two inches (5 cm) to seven inches (18 cm). Dragonflies can fly forwards, backwards, and sideways, because at any one time their wings can rotate, move up and down, or move forward and backward.

dragonfly

Dragonflies feed on gnats
and mosquitoes. Yea!

Damselflies are smaller and more fragile than true dragonflies. Damselflies hover over reeds and grasses bordering ponds, where they obtain food by seizing other insects. At rest, damselflies hold their wings straight up from their bodies.

True dragonflies pursue insects through the air and use all six legs to seize the prey, which they then crush with their jaws. At rest, true dragonflies spread their wings flat, at right angles to their bodies. (From How Stuff Works)

RUNAWAY YELLOW FLOATING THING

The Wixted camp (1C Old Beach, next to Ritter camp) rescued a stray yellow floatable (sort of like an air mattress) from the lake last evening. If it's yours, give us a call at 287-0225 or boat on by and take it off our dock.

It's still in good shape and seems to be in excellent spirits, in case you're wondering. :-)

SAFETY ALERT ! - Please Obey Watercraft Rules

I am posting a warning to all pontoon boats and jet skis. These water crafts have been coming much to close to our cement dock at the old camp on Robinson's Point. Some of these crafts have come within a very few feet from the dock. If someone is swimming from the dock it is a very dangerous situation.
Marine Law state that a motorized water craft is to stay at least 150 feet from the shore or a swim area. Please follow this law!!!

NOTE TO COMMUNITY
Our East Shore Road sign tree has been cleared of the fill material for the road. I am so pleased...I am pretty sure in a few more years it would have become distressed. It was the first thing I noticed driving in this year. It is the only Good tree to use for signs. Thank you "road crue" on the East Shore!!!!!

Also I finally got to start reading the new Sylvia Lake book.. Very good, well done... learning some new things. chuckles... (Saidel's raccon story eating the coffee cake.) I am very much enjoying it. Thank you so much from an other Sylvia Lake CHEER LEADER. Anne
