AFS Student to live at Sylvia Lake

The Lacks Family of West Shore Rd. on Sylvia Lake is pleased to announce that AFS Student Keila Pena will reside with them at Sylvia Lake during her stay in the United States. Keila is a 16 year old from the city of Santa Domingo in the Dominican Republic. She will attend Gouverneur High School for the entire school year.

Keila stated she was excited about coming to the U.S. and is anxious to stay at Sylvia Lake. Her interests are art and music. Her mother is an architect and her father is an engineer. She has a younger brother and sister.

Keila is interested in meeting everyone at the lake and in Gouverneur and is looking forward to making new friends. She admits she has a hard time speaking English, but understands it better than she can speak it. She also wants to meet people her own age at the lake and school and build friendships.

Keila is expected to arrive on August 12, 2005, and stay until late June of 2006. The host family, Joe, Kelley and Jered Lacks look forward to their new AFS "daughter" and teach her about the history of the U.S. and our own local history. They invite anyone who wishes to meet Keila to stop into their camp and say hello.
