More
than 40 sticks of dynamite later, Fergie is happy to report that
all involved in the effort are safe and sound. The beavers
will be hard pressed to rebuild their dams before the lake reaches
the desired level. We are currently using the dam at
the end of the lake to control the flow.
Hats off to
Mike Greenhill for his expertise in setting and detonating the
charges and Tim Prashaw for his assistance throughout the day.
And what a day it was! Mike, Frank Langevin and Fergie met at
8:30 this morning and Tim, Gary Scott and Dave Lockwood joined
later
as our pre Christmas fireworks display took place.
5 to 10 foot
PVC pipes were driven into the base of the lower dams first,
loaded with one to two sticks of dynamite, stemmed and wires
run to the detonator. The crew found cover and the fun began.
This
procedure was repeated at six strategic locations in the
outlet and by 2:00 this afternoon, the consensus was that we
seem have the upper hand. Tim will be on location the next few
days
to
discourage any rebuilding.
If a picture
is worth a 1000 words the video clips below speak volumes.
